Final Winner in this Category - Mackie CR3

Budget Pick - Logitech Z313 Speaker System

The Z313 is short on features and sports only one connection, but if you’re looking to add a bassy setup to your computer on the cheap it’s the best option available.

  Brand - Logitech   Model - 980-000382
  Item Weight - 3.2 Kg   Package Dimensions - 33 x 16.5 x 23.5 cm
RAM Size - 4 GB   Computer Memory Type - SDRAM
Speaker Connectivity - wired   Speaker Surround Sound Channel Configuration - 2.1 channel

If your budget is under ₹14,000 but you still want sound that beats the speakers built into your laptop, the Logitech Z313 Speaker System is the way to go. It’s a 2.1 system, which means it comes with a subwoofer to give it a thumping sometimes overtly so bass response. It’s limited by a single input: A 3.5 mm connector that plugs into your computer’s audio-out jack. But this is an acceptable trade-off given its bargain price and decent sound.

The Competition - Logitech Z625 Speaker System

We brought in the Micca PB42X speakers after reading some favorable reviews. Unfortunately, we found that the bottom end produced extreme port noise. There was also a big midrange peak that added a twang to the sound. Our sample also had the left and right channels reversed.

Samson’s MediaOne BT3 is one of the few stereo computer speaker systems under ₹20,000 that has Bluetooth. Their sound, though, is very muffled and the mids sound a bit forward, like cupping your hands around your mouth.

Logitech’s Z625 model is a THX-certified 2.1 system and delivered more bass than most of the speakers we tested. The top could be a bit strident at times, but not enough that it turned us away. If you’re looking for a bass-heavy system that has an optical connection for under ₹40,000 this is definitely worth a listen. The PreSonus Eris 4.5 system’s low end was a little muddy and the mids were a bit covered. There are controls on the speaker back to adjust the frequency bands, so there is a possibility to fine-tune the sound more to your liking. But they are double the price of the CR3 pair.

Creative’s Sound BlasterX Kratos S3 was surprisingly lacking in its bass response, especially having a separate subwoofer. The mids were a bit forward and the highs were sibilant and a little fatiguing.

  Brand - Logitech   Model - 980-001258
  Item Weight - 8 Kg   Product Dimensions - 19.6 x 11.7 x 13.5 cm
  Wattage - 200 Watts   Color - Black
Series- Powerful Thx   Device Connection - Wired

Having the most unique design of our listening panel, JBL’s Jembe are another pair of sub-₹20,000 Bluetooth speakers. We liked the sound for the price, as long as the volume wasn’t up too high, otherwise the bass fluttered and the highs were tizzy. Also, its Bluetooth connection was unreliable.

After having the M-Audio AV 40 as our previous pick, we had high hopes for the company’s AV 42 model. We were disappointed. Lauren called the excessive bass “ridiculous” and Brent said it “obscures everything else.”

The Competitor - Micca MB42 and MB42X

Brand - Micca   Item Weight -4.2 Kg
  Product Dimensions - 19 x 12.5 x 5 cm   Item model number - MBF-2

The Micca MB42X builds on the success of the sensational MB42 by significantly raising the performance bar while still taking up very little space and budget.

  • Micca adjustable acoustic foam wedge isolation pads were designed specifically for optimizing the placement of MB42 and MB42X bookshelf speakers and PB42X powered monitors

  • Each isolation pad comes with a base and an angle adjustment wedge. The base by itself provides 4-degree tilt, which can be increased to 8 degrees with the adjustment wedge to obtain desired amount of on/off-axis angle

  • The pads add approximately 2 inches of lift to the speakers, raising their acoustic center closer to the center-line of most computer monitors

  • Micca isolation pads minimizes the mechanical transmission of vibrations from the speaker enclosure to the desk or shelf

  • In addition to the bookshelf models listed above, the isolation pads are also useful for adjusting the tilt angle of MB42-C and MB42X-C center channel speakers
